General Summary:

Reporting to the Trackside Lead Systems Engineer or their designee; located in Banbury, UK. This role is primarily a travelling position and supports all on event car set-up and the calibration of sensors. The role will involve working closely with the Race, Control & Performance Engineers ensuring the chassis is built and set-up correctly to an extremely high standard. Factory projects will also be assigned to help develop system engineering tools and hardware to promote improved performance and reliability.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
  • Have an excellent understanding of Data Acquisition Systems and able to use System Monitor to set up all on car systems associated with the SECU.
  • Use Atlas and System Monitor to ensure electronic boxes, networks and sensors are set up and operating correctly and within their limits prior to and during sessions.
  •  Monitor and resolve electrical issues as they arise on the chassis. Generate and update fault reports as required and proactively investigate issues on and off car working closely with the Reliability Engineer.
  • Work closely with the Control and Performance Engineers in setting up event parameters and performing chassis tests.
  • Work closely with the Electronic Technicians and wider car crew to ensure all electrical components are allocated as per the build specification and available in readiness for car builds.
  • Continuously monitor and help to improve on and off car installations, design standards and operational processes and procedures.
  • Work closely with the Garage Tyre Technicians to ensure the TPMS sensors are correctly allocated and functioning throughout an event.
  • Develop Hardware-in-the-loop simulator tools, specifically targeting effective migration to the 2026 F1 SECU system.
  • Between events develop systems engineering and electronic tools to improve accuracy, efficiency and performance of on and off car systems.
  • Play an active role in the garage set-up and pack-up of events.
  • Follow and enforce health and safety regulations at all venues.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Trackside Lead Systems Engineer or their designee. 

 

Education and Work Experience: 

  • Degree or equivalent in Electronic/Electrical Engineering.
  • Previous experience of working with data logging and telemetry systems in a high-level motorsport environment is essential.

 

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal. Strong technical background in racing car electrical and electronic systems.
  • Work to a consistently high standard in stressful and time sensitive situations.
  • Quick decision-making skills whilst working through problems in a scientific and analytical way.
  • Work well in a team environment with personnel at all levels.

 

Equipment and Applications:

  • Experience in VBA or C# programming would be an advantage within the System Engineer role.
  • Solid computer knowledge, preferred experience in Microsoft Office products and MAT SECU Software.

 

Work Environment Physical Demands:

An ability to work and priority within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role requires a willingness to work flexible hours, including a significant portion of weekends.  It will include frequent international travel to race and test events.

 

This position may require lifting up to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast- paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands.  Work environment includes race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids.
