General Summary:

This position reports to the Methodology Manager or their designee; is located in Maranello, Italy. Responsible for supporting Design Groups in both the Aerodynamics and Full-scale design departments, working within the Design Office. This role primary function is to define tools, methods, techniques, and guidance in the use of the CAD/PLM system. This position aims to enhance the efficiency, data quality, and consistency of the design department.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
  • Provide expert assistance to Haas F1 Designers in how best to use CATIA 3DX to support the generation of complex 3D parts, assemblies and 2D drawings associated with an F1 car.
  • Working with the Methodology Manager to help develop solutions in 3D EXPERIENCE that will lead to more efficient and effective ways of working.
  • Participate in and lead projects targeting efficiency and enhancing data quality for design offices and broader business benefits.
  • Lead the As-Is process mapping and To-Be process solutions within Aero and the Design Office to aid the design of effective solutions.
  • Collate feedback and user issues from design and business users, look for trends and react by providing tools and methodologies that will address these issues.
  • Planning and delivering solutions with a combination of user documentation, demos or more formal education sessions.
  • Support regular, Key User group meetings in addressing issues raised by them in line with their operational priorities.
  • Work with the PLM Manager to ensure that any major change in methods will support the intentions of the Haas F1 PLM Strategy.
  • Support and guide the management and maintenance of a set of 3DX “Hints and Tips” and “Use Case” guidance documents.
  • Lead 3DX related projects requiring new custom or configuration developments which are supported by our PLM service providers.
  • Follow all safety regulations in all venues.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Methodology Manager or their designee.

 

Education and Work Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working with CATIA is essential, ideally with at least 3 years’ experience of working with CATIA V6 or 3D EXPERIENCE.
  • University Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering (or similar discipline) is required.
  • Preferably 5+ years of experience in automotive, motorsport, aerospace, or a similar industry as a member of an engineering design department or an IT support function to a design department.
  • Prior experience in Formula One or other motor racing category is advantageous.

 

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Work well in a team environment with personnel at all levels.
  • Expert level in CATIA solid modelling & surface design applications.
  • Demonstrable experience of creating methods with CATIA V5, V6 or ideally 3D EXPERIENCE in a Design Office environment is essential.
  • A proficient level in some or all the following applications in CATIA (V5, V6 or 3D EXPERIENCE); Kinematics, Digital Shape Editor, Quick Surface Reconstruction, Imagine & Shape and Composite Design.
  • A good understanding of CATIA software, configuration, standards and settings.
  • Hands on design experience is preferred with a good understanding of engineering tasks and association to CAD applications. Composite, Mechanical, Automotive or Aeronautical engineering background is advantageous.
  • Experience of using and supporting PDM or PLM systems such as ENOVIA V5/V6, Windchill or Teamcenter.
  • A sympathetic approach to your work colleagues and an ability to integrate within a group environment.
  • An ability to prepare and present effective presentations of complex subjects to a diverse audience.
  • Work to a consistently high standard in stressful and time sensitive situations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to support business users under pressure, providing solutions in a calm, yet efficient and thorough way.
  • An ability to quickly turnaround pinpoint solutions to improve operational efficiency.
  • Quick decision-making skills whilst working through problems in a scientific and analytical way.
  • Proactive, flexible, organised and able to prioritize your own workload.

 

Equipment and Applications:

  • Excellent knowledge of MS-Office software package and Microsoft Windows 10 or 11.
  • Knowledge of CATIA automation e.g. macros, UDFs, knowledge-ware and coding is advantageous but not essential.
  • Solid Microsoft and PC knowledge with experience in Microsoft Office products is essential.

 

Work Environment Physical Demands:

An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require some, domestic & international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.

 

This position may require lifting to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
