About the Role:

A fantastic opportunity has become available in our Composite Design Group for a Lead Composite Design Engineer. Reporting to the Head of Composite Design, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading a group in delivering performance and reliability to a significant area of the car design. You must be comfortable challenging yourself and others with respect and passion to drive our projects forward whilst striving to achieve the best possible results. You will exhibit an in-depth understanding of composites design, materials selection, manufacturing processes and their applications with a solid first principles understanding.

 

Candidate Profile:

  • Composite, Mechanical, or Aeronautical Engineering degree (2:1 minimum grade).
  • Having multiple years’ F1 Design experience (10~15yrs) with a proven track record for successfully leading and delivering a range of significant Composite projects, demonstrating technology improvements and innovation.
  • A clear and holistic understanding of racing car design with strong understanding of the bigger picture including where to focus to optimise performance.
  • Strong knowledge in Composite materials and relevant manufacturing process.
  • Experience of Catia V5/3DX design & FEA package would be beneficial.
  • Understanding and ability to perform hand calculation produce reliable and optimised designs.
  • A good understanding and ability to interpret FEA results.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills to ensure clear direction for your group and cross departmental integration.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to work under limited supervision to tight deadlines.
  • Strong capability in project management; forecasting & planning.

Key responsibilities/Duties:

  • Responsible for keeping the specified area of composites design at the very cutting edge in the industry.
  • Responsible for identifying performance opportunities and guiding the group across the process of innovation and continuous development.
  • Responsible for delivering the high-quality engineering solutions for the specific Car Group area through managing the resource allocation to achieve the schedule, including themselves in the allocation.
  • Responsible for ensuring strong collaboration across the entire business.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day technical leadership in the specific area with their engineers, consulting HoD on high level decisions.
  • Responsible for highlighting any risks to HoD throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Responsible for delivering quality schemes to Stress Group in an efficient manner, allowing sufficient time to provide an optimised laminate solution.
  • Responsible for checking the general quality of engineering releases; drawing, modelling and analysis of components released from your engineering area and ensuring they meet MAMG design standards and processing them through the correct channels.
  • Accountable for ERP (SAP) sign-off for Engineering released of Life class NC to B3 in the absence of HoD.
  • Responsible for the Car Groups final assembly mass quality as stated within the mass tracker in terms of both CoG and mass.
  • Responsible for ensuring that appropriate level of validation has been completed in a timely manner allowing action to be taken if required.
  • Responsible for checking and ensuring life allocations are correct and creating ZSAR ECN’s in a timely manner leading into an event.
  • Responsible for guiding the technical resolution of feedbacks allocated to your engineering area and supporting the Groups Reliability Engineer.
  • Responsible for identifying and supporting development opportunities, both technical and capability, across the group.

 

Line Management tasks:

  • Responsible for the personal development of the engineers within their area, supporting them identifying development opportunities and providing regular feedback.
  • Accountable for completion of PR for engineers within their area, consulting HoD for feedback and ensure consistency across the Composite Group.
  • Accountable for the sign-off of holiday and lieu day allocations based on company procedures, ensuring sufficient capability to complete scheduled tasks & keeping HoD informed.
