General Summary:

This position reports to the Electronics Workshop Team Leader or their designee; located in Banbury, UK. Responsible for the maintenance and testing of harnesses, sensors, and electronic assemblies at the factory. The electronic technician will assist with the management of the electronics workshop ensuring all tooling, test equipment and stock are maintained.

 

General Responsibilities:

  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
  • Carry out duties as assigned by the Electronics Workshop Team Leader or their designee.
  • Work closely with the electronics team to ensure the correct level of spares and consumables are available to all events.
  • Follow all safety regulations in all venues.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Electronics Workshop Team leader or their designee.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Testing a range of harnesses, sensors and electronic assemblies for use on and off car, using various test and validation rigs following laid down procedures.
  • Visual inspection of harnesses and electronic assemblies to engineering drawings with good attention to detail.
  • Support factory race and test car build ensuring all electronic units, sensors and wiring harnesses are fit for purpose.
  • Raise Faults and highlight quality deficiency noted during parts manufacturing and car build.
  • Creation of faults for damaged and failed components in the faults database and be able to support resolution with the Electronics Design Team.
  • Raise NCRs and concession requests for non-compliant goods.
  • Liase with suppliers over quality issues and resolutions in a timely manner.
  • Assist System Engineers with development and implementation of in-house test rigs and equipment plus associated test and validation procedures.
  • Follow procedures provided by the System Engineers to calibrate and test sensors and electronic assemblies, both on-car and at the factory.
  • Creation of test procedure documentation for Goods in, servicing and calibration of electronic sensors.
  • Take ownership of Cirris harnesses testing in-house, writing, and carrying out tests and maintaining accurate traceability of components tested.
  • Contribute to the definition of the Code of Practice for on and off car installations, design/manufacturing standards and operational processes and procedures.
  • Able to manufacture test harnesses as required. (With experience of System 25 desirable)
  • Attend race and test events as part of the electronics trackside team if required.

 

Education and Work Experience:

  • GCSE, High School diploma or equivalent required. Further education including electronics training to HNC/HND/degree level, desirable. Previous experience of working in a high-level motorsport environment is essential.

 

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience of working with Raychem System 25 and motorsport/aerospace connectors.
  • Strong technical background in racing car electrical and electronic systems.
  • Work to a consistently high standard in stressful and time sensitive situations.
  • Quick decision-making skills whilst working through problems in a scientific and analytical way.
  • A sympathetic approach to your work colleagues and an ability to integrate within a group environment.
  • A can-do positive approach and a willingness to help others is essential.

 

Equipment and Applications:

  • Experience using Cirris test equipment would be desirable, but training can be provided if required.
  • Experience with Mclaren software packages: System Monitor and Atlas (Desirable)
  • Experience in Microsoft Office and ERP systems (e.g. Microsoft Dynamics 365 and/or AX).
  • Experience of Motorsport harness manufacturing techniques.
  • Ability to follow complex regulations related to shipment of materials and facility maintenance requirements.

 

Work Environment Physical Demands:

An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require some international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.

 

This position may require lifting to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
