The first American Formula 1 team to compete in the sport since 1986, MoneyGram Haas F1 Team made an immediate impression with a memorable points-scoring debut at the 2016 Australian Grand Prix. Nine years later, and the team continues to demonstrate growth and a clear direction with its future objectives – coming off the back of its second-best season to-date in Formula 1.


We’re a racing team – not a corporate machine. We have three HQs – Kannapolis in the US, Banbury in the UK and Maranello in Italy – each powered by passionate, loyal and hardworking team ambassadors. General Summary:

This position reports to the Head of Electronics or their designee; located in Banbury, UK. The position will involve collaboration on the ongoing development of hardware, software and software-based tools to support the analysis of our Standard Electronic Control Unit, (SECUx), covering the on-car control systems and car data acquisition system.  Also, this position is responsible to provide support for the general development and maintenance of toolsets and Hardware in the Loop, (HIL) test environment, to assist in the validation of on car software builds and off car performance analyses of data.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
  • Support HIL hardware development and operation.
  • Assist with the development of our trackside data analysis toolset.
  • Contribute to the improvement of methodologies and processes within the Electronics, Controls & Systems Groups to ensure on-time delivery of high-quality tools and control system data analyses.
  • Provide periodic support from our Race Support Room aiding the trackside engineers in extracting of the maximum performance from our race cars.
  • Collaborate on the development of Hardware in the Loop models and test solutions for our SECU based embedded software.
  • Follow all safety regulations in all venues.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of Electronics or their designee.

 

 

Education and Work Experience:

  • Further education including bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably with a focus on control systems engineering.
  • A master’s degree in Control Systems Engineering would be desirable.
  • 5 years of work experience, 2 of which preferably would be in a professional motorsports environment or similar industry.

 

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Relevant experience in the use of Matlab/Simulink to develop complex models for embedded systems and simulation.
  • Detailed knowledge of how to develop and tune PID control systems. Based upon specific models and criteria.
  • Clear understanding of the operation and development of HIL test and development environments.
  • Communication, ability to work under pressure, self-motivation, time management, conflict resolution, adaptability, willingness to learn.
  • Capable of working in a team environment to a very high standard and a positive work attitude.
  • A sympathetic approach to your work colleagues and an ability to integrate within a group environment.
  • A can-do positive approach and a willingness to help others is essential.

 

Equipment and Applications:

  • Knowledge of F1 SECU software architecture, (or similar environment), associated tools and data analysis.
  • Competence in a high level computer programming languages such as C#, Python and Visual Basic highly desirable.

 

Work Environment Physical Demands:

An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require some domestic & international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.

 

This position may require lifting to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
