Data / Systems Engineer

Following ACI Motorsport's success in winning the Pro-Am SRO GT4 in 2024 and their consistent performance in Porsche Carrera Cup North America (PCCNA), we are expanding programs and seeking the right candidates to fill key positions. This offers an exciting opportunity to join a growing and successful team in high-level motorsport, contributing to ongoing success and new challenges across multiple series.

The Systems / Data Engineer position plays a critical role in optimizing race car performance by analyzing data, developing tools, and supporting race strategy. Below is a detailed outline of the role and required qualifications:

Role and Responsibilities:

Data Collection and Analysis:

  • Utilize specialized data software to gather, analyze, and interpret time series data from multiple sources, identifying opportunities for performance improvement.
  • Present findings to the race team and provide data-driven recommendations for enhancements.

Tool Development:

  • Develop and employ tools to simulate and analyze potential performance gains, leveraging simulation software to validate and confirm outcomes.

Race Strategy Support:

  • Collaborate with the Race Engineer on pre- and post-event analyses, focusing on deriving insights from data and assessing competitor information.
  • Contribute to live race strategy by making real-time decisions using tools like HH Timing, integrating tire degradation data, lap times, and other crucial performance metrics.

Communication and Setup:

  • Set up and maintain radio communication systems, ensuring clear and effective communication between team members during races and test events.
  • Manage the installation and configuration of Wi-Fi networks at race venues, facilitating reliable data transfer and connectivity for the team.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering: A foundational engineering degree is required for this role.

Experience:

  • 4 years of experience in data analysis within motorsport, using various data software tools.

Software Proficiency:

  • Familiarity with key data tools such as Pi Cosworth, HH Timing, VBOX, and MATLAB for data collection, analysis, and strategy development.

Event Support Requirements:

  • On-Site Data Analysis: The engineer will need to conduct real-time data analysis during testing and racing, providing crucial insights that can impact performance and strategy.
  • Team Collaboration: The role involves close collaboration with race engineers, mechanics, and other team members to ensure accurate data collection and interpretation, fostering a cooperative environment during high-pressure situations.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility is necessary to respond to varying conditions and challenges that may arise during test sessions and races, which typically take place on weekends or at different locations.
  • Hands-On Involvement: Actively supporting the team during events enables the engineer to address any data-related issues immediately and contribute to on-the-spot decision-making.

In addition to the previously outlined responsibilities and qualifications, the Systems / Data Engineer must also be willing to support the team at all test events and race events.

This role is suited for an individual with advanced technical expertise and experience in motorsport systems and data optimization. It requires a combination of analytical abilities, strategic thinking, and communication skills to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure racing environment.
